AGHS students from Year 7-12 are regularly offered opportunities to join competitions in creative writing. These competitions exercise students’ creative skills and abilities in composing engaging narratives and/or picture books. These also help to practise and solidify the skills learnt in the English lessons as students apply their knowledge in external yet relevant contexts. The English faculty runs workshops to further support students in their writing and submissions, and increasing their overall level of confidence. The Young Writer’s Award is one example of these competitions where students are encouraged to write about a topic of their choice. In addition, there are opportunities for students to have their stories published.
