STEM
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The NSW Department of Education is committed to building a unique set of future focused skills in students through engagement in STEM. Creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and an entrepreneurial mindset are skills required to develop confident global citizens who are able to thrive in our rapidly changing world.
In Year 8 at AGHS we provide dedicated classes for STEM, planned and facilitated by collaborative and enthusiastic teachers who are experts in their chosen field. Our STEM course requires students to work in teams and to solve real life problems. The STEM classes are supported by our Year 8 literacy and numeracy programs which link directly to the STEM learning.
The Year 8 STEM program now provides the foundation for other authentic learning experiences offered at AGHS, including Year 9 Authentic Learning electives, Science Expo, Stage 4 Coding and the Robotics Club. The whole school approach to future focused learning is unique to Asquith and is providing the pathways for girls to become well prepared for life beyond school.
To strengthen the authenticity of STEM further at AGHS, we are always looking for community partnerships from individuals or businesses who would like to volunteer time to come and work with students to help them gain insight into how future focused skills development can be applied to real world situations. If you would like to engage with this program in some way please contact the school via email at: asquithgir-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au.
