The aim of the P&C is to promote the interests of the school by bringing our parents, citizens, students and teachers into close co-operation; to assist in providing facilities and equipment; and to promote the welfare of AGHS students.
Functions of the P&C include reporting on the material requirements of the school and advising on alterations, maintenance, and additions to facilities; to co-operate and assist with staff in public functions associated with AGHS; and electing the parent representatives to school committees as requested. We also lobby government as necessary to ensure our school continues to receive its fair share of funding.
We encourage you to become involved in the P&C and be a partner in your daughter's education.
Meetings
The meetings, although following a set format, are low key and friendly. The Principal attends to give us updates on current and future happenings. Also from time to time various staff and community members attend to speak on subjects of interest. We discuss areas of interest and concerns on the part of the school or the parent body. These meetings enable us, as parents, to gain a more in-depth knowledge of the running of the school and enable us to assist in areas of need.
Grounds
We actively assist in school and grounds maintenance by providing the school with the funds to hire additional grounds maintenance staff. The funds come from the P&C garden levy that is included on the annual fees statement for each child and enable a professional gardener to be employed on a regular, casual basis throughout the year, rather than holding adhoc working bees.
Staff Selection
Parents on the P&C may undergo the relevant training to assist the school executive with hiring of teaching staff.
Fundraising
The P&C carries out fundraising to contribute additional facilities and resources to our girls' education. We work with the School Executive to identify needs worthy of financial support outside of the School's basic funding system. The majority of the financial support the P&C provides comes from parent P&C contributions.
Recent areas of P&C support include funding for the installation of water bottle refilling stations in the canteen areas and the supply and installation of a giant fan in the hall.
Uniform Shop
The Uniform Shop sells well-priced used uniforms and new school caps, poly-cotton jerseys, aprons and caps (required for Food Technology classes).
