TAS - Technological and Applied Studies

 

The TAS (Technology & Applied Studies) faculty at AGHS provide a range of different subjects for students to choose from all focused on developing lifelong skills. Our programs, assessment tasks and learning activities all centre around solving real world problems in a practical, engaging manner. Students explore the use of a range of different tools, materials and techniques. Our facilities at school mean that students can achieve high quality project solutions all within the classroom. The TAS team are dedicated to ensuring the best opportunities are provided to all students with relevant and updated teaching material.

Stage 4

Stage 4 Technology Mandatory is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore the range of technologies that will be offered in more depth in Stage 5 and 6. AGHS will be implementing the new NSW Technology Mandatory syllabus from 2019 that covers the following technology contexts:

·         Digital Technologies

·         Agriculture and Food Technologies

·         Engineered Systems

·         Material Technologies

In Stage 4 Technology Mandatory, our students are introduced to the design process developing practical projects in each technology context.

Stage 5

In Stage 5 Technology, students are offered numerous 200hour electives. These electives are taught by specialist teachers are passionate about their subject area. The subjects are heavily practical based building on 21st Century skills. Students can choose all TAS electives if they wish! We offer the following electives at AGHS:

·         Food Technology

·         Textiles Technology

·         Design and Technology

·         Engineering Studies

·         Graphics Technology

Stage 6

A number of subjects taught by specialist teachers are offered in Stage 6 including;

·         Food Technology (ATAR subject)

·         Textiles & Design (ATAR subject)

·         Design & Technology (ATAR subject)

·         Industrial Technology and Multimedia (ATAR subject)

·         Software Design & Development (ATAR subject)

·         Hospitality - Certificate 2 Kitchen Operations (ATAR subject)

·         Exploring Early Childhood (non ATAR subject)

Some Stage 6 TAS subjects include the completion of a major project worked on predominantly at school. All TAS electives in Stage 6 provide students with challenging projects that look heavily at our current world, the issues we are facing and give students the opportunity to be creative and produce innovative solutions.
