On Tuesday 30 October 2018, Grace Steele attended the 2018 NSW Schools State Constitutional Convention. She was one of 150 students chosen from across the state, with students attending from as far away as Tumut in the south and Lismore in the north. The students received a talk from noted Constitutional expert Anne Twomey on the issue of section 44 of the Australian Constitution, which outlines the various means through which Federal Members of Parliament can be disqualified from sitting in the Australian Government. The students then broke up into groups to debate the need for changes to the section and voted to remove dual citizenship as a disqualifying characteristic from section 44.
