Procedures for managing bullying

*POLICY CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW*

Overall procedures and consequences for helping to ‘sort it out' or ‘fix it'.

  1. A complaint of bullying or mean behaviour is made to a trusted staff member, who counsels the target.
  2. Staff member initially speaks to the student and makes a judgement whether they should refer the matter on to the Year adviser, Head Teacher Wellbeing and Learning or the Deputy Principal, or continue to manage the situation.
  3. The target is counselled and consulted leading to making a decision whether this has helped ‘sort it out' or ‘fix it' or whether to proceed to Step 4.
  4. A written statement concerning the alleged offence and naming the offenders is made by the target.
  5. Head Teacher or Deputy Principal convenes a meeting with the person /people named in the targets statement to discuss the complaint. Based on the findings move to step 6 or 7.
  6. Conflict resolution session between the target and the alleged bully. The aim of this session is to reach a resolution where all people involved are satisfied.
  7. For serious or unresolved cases of bullying, the consequences will follow the Asquith Girls High School Discipline Policy. This may include detention, withdrawal from the playground and/or placement on a discipline level involving behaviour monitoring.
