NSWCHSSA Final 8 U15 Basketball Championships

Congratulations to the U15 Girls Basketball Team for winning the Bronze Medal in the two-day state tournament at Gosford City Sports Stadium on 31/10/18 and 1/11/18.

The following students participated with great skill, sportsmanship and team spirit to achieve this commendable result: Gen Audette (Captain), Carla Pitman, Luse Imo, Sasha Deffert, Georgia Clements, Summer Enasio, Mackenzie Williams and Erin Partridge. Erica Pitman coached the team during the tournament and Daila Walker assisted Erica with training sessions throughout the season.

On day one, Asquith competed against Hunter Sports High School (Lost 39-57); Glenmore Park High School (Won 43-40) and Coffs Harbour High School (Won 43-33). This resulted in Hunter Sports High School placing 1st in Pool B and Asquith Girls High School placing 2nd. In Pool A, Lambton High School finished in 1st place and Karabar High School placed 2nd.

On day two, after making it into the top four schools in the state, Asquith had a tough first match against Lambton, losing 60-22. They had numerous tall representative players on their team, plus a national player, which made it a very challenging game. Our final game was against Hunter Sports High School in the Bronze Medal match. Asquith fought well to keep a strong lead throughout the game and almost reversed the score we had against the Sports High School on day one of the tournament winning 53 to 36. Erica Pitman did a tremendous job coaching the team, even against Hunter’s National Coach.

The Asquith team were ecstatic with the Bronze Medal win, considering that the team captain, Gen Audette injured her knee in the first game of the tournament and was on the sideline cheering for the remaining matches. This left us with one representative player (Carla Pitman) in our team, together with a powerhouse of supportive players, who all scored, rebounded, set screens and intercepted any loose balls to make the final result possible.

I am incredibly proud of all the Asquith girls who represented our school.

Congratulations!
